Better Business Bureau BBB Accredited Business badge for All State Companies construction services

All State Companies is a licensed and insured demolition and excavating contractor serving Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the greater Twin Cities metro, with 17 years of experience and more than 1,200 completed projects. We handle residential demolition, commercial site clearing, pool removal, excavating, hauling, boulder walls, and land clearing, including MDH-certified asbestos surveys and all municipal permitting. One contractor covers the job from the first machine on site to final grade.

Work with a team of highly-skilled demolition and hauling experts

Seventeen years in this market, 1,200-plus projects, licensed and insured, locally owned and operated out of Princeton. We work for homeowners, general contractors, and developers across Anoka, Hennepin, Ramsey, Sherburne, and Wright counties.

Our crews demo the structure, dig the hole, haul the debris out, bring the fill back in, and grade the site. Everything under one roof makes communication easy when needs change.

Our demolition crews take down houses, garages, barns, pole buildings, apartment blocks, warehouses, and commercial structures, plus interior selective demo when a building is being gutted. Fire and storm-damaged buildings are handled differently because the structure is already compromised.

For residential demolition projects, the comprehensive scope of work includes:

  • Cutting and capping utilities at the property line, with all disconnects clearly marked and formally inspected
  • Coordinating with Gopher State One Call before breaking ground
  • Separating and hauling away all debris
  • Conducting a thorough inspection of the hole before backfilling
  • Applying topsoil and seed to ensure the lot successfully passes its final inspection

In Minneapolis, you can’t legally pull a wrecking permit for a commercial building unless the contractor holds a city wrecking license, which we do.

A pool is its own kind of teardown. There are two ways to remove an in-ground pool, and the cheaper one causes problems later. Partial removal breaks up the top few feet of wall, punches drainage holes in the floor, and buries the rest, so the buried concrete must be disclosed when you sell. Also, you can’t build anything on that footprint. Full removal removes the entire shell, plumbing, and equipment pad. Skip the lifts and dump the fill in one pour, and you’ll get a bowl-shaped depression in the yard within two years. We compact in lifts instead. Either way, the ground stays level. Most metro cities require a permit for pool removal, and we pull it.

Our excavating contractors handle foundation and basement digs, footings, trenching for water, sewer, gas, and electric, drain tile, sewer line repair, pole barn pads, Class 5 driveways, and finish grading. Minnesota soil makes this less routine than it sounds: heavy clay in parts of the metro holds water differently than others, frost depth dictates when certain work can start, and a site that graded out perfectly in October can shift after spring thaw if the fill wasn’t done correctly.

Getting the soil right is the first part of the job. Getting it there is the second part. We run our own hauling trucks, which is why our demolition schedules hold. Debris out, material in: black dirt, fill, sand, Class 5, and rock delivered where you need it on site rather than dumped at the end of the driveway. We also subcontract hauling for other contractors who need volume moved on a specific day.

Not everything we do is meant to be moved. Granite boulder walls hold back slopes, terrace a walkout, create a usable flat yard, and stabilize shoreline and lakeside grades around Lake Minnetonka and White Bear Lake. Whether a wall survives ten Minnesota winters happens behind it: drainage rock, filter fabric, and a base set below grade so freeze-thaw cycling doesn’t walk the boulders out of position over time. Walls past roughly four feet generally need engineered plans in most metro municipalities.

Some sites are being built up; some others are being cleared out. Our land clearing crews clear and grub trees, brush, stumps, fence lines, and old foundations for building pads, pasture, food plots, driveways, and commercial site clearing ahead of development. Buckthorn is its own job. It has to be pulled or treated at the stump, and a lot of metro acreage is heavily infested. We also plan around what you can’t clear: wetland buffers, shoreland setbacks, and protected trees carry real consequences if a machine gets to them first. Any site disturbing an acre or more triggers the MPCA construction stormwater permit and an erosion control plan, which we also handle.

The All State Protocol

Asbestos Testing and Minnesota State Requirements

Every structure in Minnesota has to be inspected for asbestos-containing material before it’s demolished. The inspection has to be done by an asbestos inspector certified through the Minnesota Department of Health, not by the demo crew’s judgment call.

If regulated asbestos-containing material exceeds 260 linear feet, 160 square feet, or 35 cubic feet, it has to be removed by an MDH-licensed abatement contractor before demolition starts, under a separate abatement notification. Some non-friable material can stay in place.

Separately, the MPCA must be notified at least ten working days before demolition begins, whether or not asbestos was found. Miss it and the job doesn’t start. Both the property owner and contractor carry the liability.

Permit Acquisition in Minneapolis and St. Paul

In Minneapolis, commercial or residential wrecking permits must be pulled and executed by a city-licensed contractor. An erosion control permit is issued alongside the wrecking permit. After that, the city inspects the open hole to verify construction debris is gone. Then inspects again to confirm topsoil and seed went in. Both have to pass before the permit closes.

In St. Paul, the demolition permit application goes to the Department of Safety and Inspections. Ramsey County must complete a pre-demolition inspection on all residential and commercial demolitions with all documentation included. They also have a ten-day notification on top of the MPCA’s. On historic properties, the Heritage Preservation Office has to sign off, and demolition of certain pre-1930 structures in the Hill districts requires a state environmental review.

Other commonly overlooked items include Metropolitan Council Sewer Availability Charge credits for commercial buildings, which provide substantial savings. Ramsey County requires disposal and recycling receipts tied to the site address within ten business days of project completion, while utility service removals proceed through Xcel and the local water authority on independent timelines.

We handle the notifications, the applications, the sign-offs, and the inspections. Request an estimate and we’ll tell you what your city requires before you commit to a timeline.

Environmental Responsibility in Demolition

Foundations, slabs, driveways, and pool shells can be crushed into recycled aggregate and reused as base or backfill, sometimes on the same site. That eliminates truck trips in both directions, reducing disposal tonnage, hauling costs, and fuel consumed moving existing rock.

Houses built before the 1970s often contain old-growth dimensional lumber, flooring, and trim that can’t be bought new at any price because the timber no longer exists. Reclaiming it takes hand labor and time, which is why it’s sent to a landfill.

Hennepin County provides deconstruction grants to fund alternatives to traditional disposal, offering up to $5,000 for pre-1970 residential properties, up to $10,000 for commercial buildings and large apartments, and up to $15,000 for structural relocation. These sustainable options can be built directly into the project scope during the initial estimate.
